The problem with benchmarks — Shocking! Brutal! Fail!

A new product drops — take Apple's M2 as the latest example — and people rush to post about how, according to some benchmark or test, it’s bad, broken, burning, not a big enough bump. Then, other people read or watch all this, get super mad angry, and come over to my comments, our comments, our socials, all the rest of us, and demand to know why we’re not addressing these controversies. So, some of us do, and make even more posts that… 90% plus of which is utterly, stupefyingly… meaningless if not just completely made up. We perpetuate it. We validate it.

Well, not anymore...!
